As part of a cross-curricular assignment in English, the students wrote a script for a role-play depicting a typical day in the life of a pioneer family, and to wrap things up, they joined together to share the simple joys of Christmas as they gathered around the table and shared a good old-fashioned Christmas lunch! dressed up in improvised pioneer costumes and having a good laugh as they enjoy a hearty meal with their friends. This was the perfect opportunity for students to celebrate their friendships and just have a good time with their buddies. We often encourage our children to build those strong friendships. However, in our technologically driven society, where devices and interaction on social media consume much of our leisure time, experiencing those warm and fuzzy connections with friends is a challenge! Instead of hanging out in person and enjoying a game or eating ice cream together, kids and adults alike will most likely resort to texting or video calling, which lacks that personal and emotional touch. At Rowntree Montessori Schools, our commitment to nurturing tomorrow's achievers is just one of our many goals. The key to providing that warm and friendly environment also begins with fostering good values that build strong, lifelong friendships. Activities such as the Pioneer Lunch lends itself whole-heartedly to the celebration and appreciation of great friends!
